Text to speech apps?

I'm a bit late to the game, but have recently realised the potential of text to speech programs. The audio has become a lot more realistic these days. However, most programs available online that are advertised as 'free' restrict the character count unless you sign up to a monthly subscription. Those that do offer unlimited conversion still seem to feature robotic, unrealistic voices.

Can anyone recommend a decent free or non-subscription app that offers unlimited conversion with realistic voices? With AI tech advancing at a rapid rate, I'm sure there must be better apps on the market than I have found.

Had a look at Elevenlabs. Looks a great option, though the subscription model has changed. I used the free model, with mixed results. The voices are good, and it picks up on grammar like exclaimation marks and pauses (....). Problem is, you are still limited in characters with the cheapest option. I'm also a bit reluctant to give my credit card details to anyone online -Google Pay may be a better option. It's definitely something I will explore further, possibly adding video to the audio tracks.

It doesn't really add anything to stories if you hear them instead of read them (great for the visually impaired of course). However, this tech comes into its own when you have a woman (and possibly a man) speaking to you directly. You simply dream up a scenario and write the script. Like any other porn though, each audio file will probably get stale easily.

If it becomes easier to create your own visuals and audio I think a lot of cam girls may be out of work in a few years!

Posted my first attempt on a new thread.

Further to this I can see that numerous websites exist offering basically AI porn - you create the character and the personality and then you interact with them online. Wondering if anyone uses these sites and if so can recommend a good user-friendly one. Preferably where the character speaks in real time as opposed to participating in a text conversation. Without censorship of course. Anyone tried this?

Microsoft Edge actually has pretty good TTS in a whole bunch of languages (including international accents of English). It can read any webpage aloud to you.

I actually use elevenlabs. It does have a limit of 1000 characters a day, but it has a pretty big library of voices, and you can actually tailor an AI voice from a prompt. In the voice generation section you can type "This voice should be calm" or "This voice should sound british" or even "This voice should not sound nasaly"; do note that when you are generating voices using a text prompt that it WILL eat into your character limit for the daye. Paying for a subscription gives you access to the wider catalogue of tailor made voices which are good but realistically the free version has everything you'd probably need. If you need more than 1000 characters and don't think it's worth it to buy a sub, you can always sign up using a different account, though be aware that if you have your own generated voice, it'll probably be hard to generate the EXACT same voice even with the same prompt.
